This tool lets you explore the behavior of Circle of Confusion (CoC) and the associated perceived sharpness and bokeh across formats and focal lengths. The colorful horizontal format lines in the graph correspond to the accepted and acceptable CoC in each format. Below the line the image will be perceived as sharp - above as soft. Settings like focal length, aperture and focus distance are set across formats. In the viewfinder preview below you can see a simulation of how your focus distance and angle of view would look like with an average person as a subject. In this case the distance from the camera to the person is the same as focus distance.

đĄ Understanding the Graph
Horizontal axis: Distance to an object (meters, log scale).
Vertical axis: The size of the Circle of Confusion in millimeters (log scale). Smaller is sharper.
Blue V-Curve: Represents the CoC size for objects at different distances. The curve touches zero at your chosen focus distance.
Horizontal Lines: Represent the "acceptably sharp" threshold for various sensor/film formats.
Depth of Field (DoF): The range on the horizontal axis where the blue curve is below your format's line is your Depth of Field.
DoF Values: Shown to the right of the graph next to each format line - can be 0 (no DoF), a distance range, or â (infinite DoF).
Viewfinder Preview: Shows how a 175cm tall person appears at your focus distance with different format crop factors.
